Recording New backing tracks

I spent yesterday recording the backing tracks for the two new books coming out in September . "Ostinato Songs" and "Pentatonic songs" are both part of my "Red Hot Song library" which now has eight books!. It was a long day recording , but I am excited about hearing the final mixes. Pictured below is Kevin Duncan who produced the tracks, and worked his usual magic on them. This is Cate Mellor who did the vocals. She also appears on the "Sparkling songs for Starter Choirs" CD.

Kevin Mayhew popped in to see how it was all going.

Music camp starts

The national Youth Music camp 2011 (I am the artistic director) has started today and will go on for the next three weeks. It is always a very exciting time full of creative happenings and diverse and broad minded music making. We will be doing a blog if you would like to follow the weeks as they unfold www.nationalyouthmusiccamp.blogspot.com
Jeremy ( a gifted pianist) arrived on camp today for a week of one handed music making!. He has just had a tendon operation after an accident which involved a baked bean can!.

Fun in Folkestone!!

Have just come back for a great Primary music day in Folkestone organised by Dorothy Driscoll. There were wider ops classes from several schools which made up an orchestra of nearly 300!.
I conducted three pieces from my "Band in a book" then we had other individual schools instrumental items and songs. The day was a mammoth project and came together very smoothly... well done Dorothy ... fantastic and very inspiring.

Its another world!

We have been very lucky to get Olympic tickets for next year (table tennis!). I was disappointed not to get synchronised swimming (really), but seeing this video on YouTube of the Japanese baton twirling team almost made up for it .... Awesome!.
