I was inspired on reading an article about Eric Whitacre this week. He went to The University of Nevada having had no musical training at all. He said that when he went for his audition and was asked to play the piano, he didn't know what this "repertoire" that they asked him for was, all he knew how to do was improvise. (A man after my own heart).
